Born in Seville, Spain and based in Brooklyn, NYC, #ChristinadeMiguel uses her hands and feet to motivate the paint, transforming her paintings into impressions of her own movements. Her colour palette is vibrant, yet there is a dark and strangely perverse quality in the drippage of paint, which melts the bodies of her subjects. The artist creates depth by contrasting her opaque, dynamic and often chaotic application of oil stick and acrylic to form her figures, with more diluted, soft and fluid backgrounds.
Her current solo exhibition at Fredericks & Freiser in New York runs from 26th March to 30th April, 2022. The exhibition showcases a number of works which explore powerful metaphors of distress through materiality and physicality.
